Club Reopening – Welcome Back!

Dear Members,

We are now busily preparing to welcome you back to your Club on Monday 1 June 2020.

The trading hours of the Club initially will be 11am to 11pm.

The Club will be reopening to members and accompanying children under 18 years of age. However memberships will be available, so those persons that are not members can join on arrival.

Offerings to members will be limited to Dining, Beverages and Gaming.

The re-opening of the Club is subject to a number of restrictions and changes, there are strict limits on the number of people we can have on our premises at any one time.

Once member levels have been reached we will not be able to permit entry of any further members until someone leaves.

We will not be taking bookings for entry to, or dining at the Club.

The health and safety of our members and employees is of primary importance.

The Club is committed to adhering to the public health requirements as detailed by both the Australian and NSW Governments.

Please do not come to the Club if you are feeling unwell or showing symptoms of COVID – 19 such as fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath.

Please follow the directional signage and advice from our employees and observe the social distancing requirements of 1.5 metres at all times. Some of the changes you will notice on your return are:

  • Random temperature checks on entry
  • All members will be required to show their membership card on arrival and sign into the Club.
  • Bollards and signage will be controlling the flow of people through the Club
  • Club furniture has been spaced apart to observe social distancing
  • Employees will be monitoring all areas to ensure members understand and adhere to the measures
  • Hygiene is paramount. Hand sanitising units have been placed throughout the Club.

Please be aware that no club parking is available at the moment whilst we are building a brand new facility for you to enjoy in the not too distant future.

Dear Petersham RSL Club Member,

The past month or so has been extraordinary for us all, especially those largely confined to home.

Many of you have received a phone call from our friendly Staff, indeed to date some 1800 of you have spoken with us. The Staff have appreciated staying in contact.  If you would like to have chat with us “just give us a call” between 10am and 5pm.

We are nearing the end of Australia’s COVID-19 related lockdown. However, there is still no clarity about when the NSW Government will allow clubs to fully re-open, or the conditions for that re-opening. The ability for Clubs to partially re-open from Friday 15 May 2020 has just been announced by the NSW Government. We understand that this restrictive re-opening is limited to dining for a maximum of 10 persons. Your Club will keep you informed of our response to that decision over the next week or so.

The Prime Minister recently announced a possible 3 staged re-opening of the economy where bars and gaming areas remain closed until Stage 3. However, this ignores the reality that the State Government can choose how it wishes to re-open the economy.

The announcement about clubs fully re-opening can come any day, or we may be waiting months for the opportunity to re-open fully.

When we re-open, rest assured that we will be following all government requirements on social distancing, safety and cleaning. We are committed to keeping you, and our staff, safe.

URGENT NOTICE TO MEMBERS

POSTPONEMENT OF THE CLUB’S ELECTION OF DIRECTORS AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Dear Members

As you are aware, on Sunday, 22 March 2020, the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, declared that all licensed clubs would close for business as of 12 midday, 23 March 2020, as one of the strategies being implemented to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19).  Accordingly, the Club is required to close its doors and cease trading from 12 midday today.  The Prime Minister indicated such mandatory shutdown could be for as long as six (6) months.

 

On Friday 20 March 2020, the Australia Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) recognised the difficulties associated with holding AGM’s by the deadline of 31 May 2020 due to the restrictions on large gatherings, travel restrictions and concerns from members about attending large-group meetings in the COVID-19 situation.  Accordingly, ASIC published Guideline 20-086MR which provided that:

  • ASIC has adopted a two-month ‘no-action’ position for entities with a financial year end of 31 December 2019 that do not hold their AGM by 31 May 2020; and

 

  • This ‘no-action’ position means that ASIC will not take action against an entity with a financial year end of 31 December 2019 who fails to comply with s250N(2) of the Corporations Act 2001 provided the entity holds the AGM by 31 July 2020 or such later date as ASIC advises (‘extension period’).

As a result of the mandatory shutdown of the Club:

  • the election of directors is unable to be conducted; and
  • it will be necessary for the Annual General Meeting of the Club to be postponed indefinitely.

Accordingly, Notice is given that the Annual General Meeting schedule to be held at 1200pm on 2 May 2020, is postponed until further notice.  The Club will issue notice, in the usual manner, advising of the new date for the Annual General Meeting and the dates for nominations for election as director and for conducting the election of directors, once it is clear when the Club is able to resume trade.

 

The Board and management appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the Club’s members in this difficult time and extends their wishes to all members, friends and families for the best of health during this unprecedented event.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I would like to inform you about the additional measures we are taking at Petersham RSL Club regarding the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The safety and security of our patrons and employees is of significant importance. We ensure that we maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. In response to the Coronavirus, we have taken additional steps to ensure our cleaning and hygiene protocols are even more rigorous:

  • Our contracted cleaners and caterers, as well as our employees, vigorously clean all surfaces.
  • We have increased cleaning schedules.
  • Automatic hand sanitisers are installed throughout our club.
  • We have recommended to our employees to personally use hand sanitisers regularly.
  • Employees who have travelled overseas are not permitted to return to work until they can satisfy the Club that they have met the public health requirements that currently includes self-isolation.
  • Some member’s facilities and benefits will be curtailed such as free tea and coffee at bingo sessions and free snacks in the gaming area.

Your Club is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of you and employees.

 

We urge you to co-operate by practising excellent self-hygiene and adhering to advice from the Government Health Authorities.

Deicorp receives DA Approval for 357 Apartments and 
New RSL club at The Siding, Petersham
 
Sydney, Australia,– Deicorp in conjunction with Petersham RSL, both long term owners and residents at Petersham, today received development application (DA) approval by the Inner West Council for 357 apartments and new RSL Club to be built over three precincts. The DA includes a new state of the art 3,500 m2 RSL Club. 
 
On Monday 17th February 2020, Deicorp will commence construction with a soil turning event including Darcy Byrne, Mayor, Inner West Council, Fouad Deiri, Managing Director, Deicorp and Danny Fitzgerald, Chief Executive Officer of Petersham RSL at the adjacent development site adjacent to the current RSL Club at The Siding, Petersham. 
 
The Siding, Petersham has been many years in the making in collaboration between Inner West Council, the Board of Petersham RSL, and Deicorp. The new precinct will provide many community benefits including a new RSL Club encompassing a day spa, minimum of two food eateries, regentrified street scaping, green living, and communal parks. The club has been a critical part of the wider Petersham community for over 100 years.

Changes to Courtesy Bus Arrangements

The Club will be making changes to the courtesy bus service provided to members from 5 September 2019.

From that date  we will be introducing a pick- up service. The bus will pick up members ( within a 5km radius) between  5pm to 7pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from their home and transport them to the Club.  Members must advise reception by ringing  95608355 and advise of their home address as well as the approximate time they would like to be picked up. A contact  must  also be provided. The precise time of   pick-up of a member cannot be guaranteed.

From 5 September 2019 the departure time of the courtesybuswill be as close to the hour as possible.

NEW RSL CLUB at THE SIDING

 

On 16 April 2018 the Clubs development partner, Deicorp a 12-year owner and tenant of Petersham lodged a development application (DA) to the Inner West Council for 350 apartments to be built over three precincts.

The DA has been lodged following the approval by Inner West Council on 10 April 2018 of a Planning Proposal (PP) and Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA).

The DA includes a new state of the art 3500m2 RSL Club with 150 off street car spaces.

The Siding, Petersham has been 3-years in the making with collaboration between Inner West Council, the Board of the Club and Deicorp.

The development will consist of three very distinguished buildings set on a beautiful leafy backdrop.

The new precinct will provide many community benefits including the Club encompassing, Day Spa, a minimum of two food eateries, re-gentrified street scaping, green living, communal parks, and affordable housing.

 The Club has been part of the wider Petersham community for over 100 years and is a critical community hub.

 It is an exciting time that will allow the Club to transform with the community and provide for the growing trends of the area.

The partnership between the Board of the Club and our partner Deicorp has been extremely collaborative from its early beginnings through a public expression of interest and tender process to where we are today.

The Club Directors are committed to keeping Members up to date with progress of the DA.

Petersham RSL Club announce an exciting partnership for a new state of the art club facility

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Petersham RSL Club it gives me great pleasure to share with you the upcoming changes which will take place at your Club.

After seeking an expression of interest, the Board have announced that Deicorp will lead the development of a new Club and surrounding facilities, bringing a refreshing vibrancy to our members and to the community. Deicorp is a well-known and highly respected builder and developer with a 17 year track record of success in the industry. The new plans include a state of the art Club, member’s car park and an integrated residential precinct, promising to deliver outstanding value for members

Petersham RSL Club is dedicated to providing the most up to date facilities for its members and believes this development will not only benefit members, but also the community as a whole by showcasing all the Petersham area has to offer. This is an exciting time for the Club with pre development application architectural plans already lodged with Marrickville Council. The Board are committed to keeping the membership informed as project milestones are achieved.

Q&A

Why is the Club undertaking this development?

The Board’s vision is for part of the Club’s lands to be developed into high quality residential dwellings without interrupting the trading and other activities of the Club.

By undertaking this development the Club is intending to diversify its resources of revenue into residential units and not just rely on gaming, liquor and hospitality income. 

How was the decision to build a new Club made?

At the Annual General Meeting held on the 2nd May 2015 the membership were informed that the Board of the Club were exploring the possibility of developing the Club’s lands in a way that generates greater income for the Club and to build Club premises that are state of the art and responsive to the changing needs of Club members and our community.

The Board conducted a two staged competitive Expression of Interest process, the outcome of which is the selection of Deicorp as the Clubs development partner.

 

What does the Club achieve out of the development?

The Club’s requirements from Deicorp, our development partner, includes the following:

 An upfront payment of $500,000.00 on execution of a development agreement, this occurred on 22 April 2016;

 Construction and delivery of new Club premises on Trafalgar Street

 Construction and delivery of a car park with a minimum of 150 car parking spaces; and

 The construction and delivery of completed home units with the Club having first right of refusal on all dwellings.

Of course there are other terms and conditions contained in the management development agreement but the above summary gives the key outcomes.

 

What facilities will the new Club contain?

As a minimum the new Club premises will have 150 car parking spaces for members,  bars and dining areas, TAB, indoor and outdoor gaming areas, an auditorium/function room, children’s area and administrative areas.

 

What happens next?

In consultation with the Club Deicorp will prepare a Development Application to be lodged with Marrickville Council. The negotiating, planning and approval process may take six months or more. Members will be updated with progress as key milestones are achieved.
